Florida AG Sues OpenAI Over ChatGPT Safety Concerns
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has filed the first state-led lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, alleging the company knowingly released ChatGPT with undisclosed risks. The 83-page complaint accuses OpenAI of prioritizing market speed and profits over safety, citing cases where the AI allegedly facilitated violent acts.
The lawsuit references an April 2025 campus shooting where the perpetrator reportedly used ChatGPT to plan the attack. Uthmeier described the large language model as a "dangerous product" that poses significant risks to public safety. Legal challenges continue mounting against AI firms as regulatory scrutiny intensifies nationwide.
